The world can be harsh. Without noticing it, we put walls around our hearts; walls meant to prevent painful wounds from being touched and to keep people from entering in and hurting us further. The walls go up and we feel safe for the moment; but those walls will never be able to give us the security we crave.
Our walls that seem safe actually offer a false sense of protection. God is the only one strong enough to not only protect us, but to heal us completely from the disappointments, pain, and betrayal we have encountered throughout our lives.
God is pursuing our hearts. With tender strength, His love brings down the walls our wounds have erected, and He becomes our protector. There is no stronger protector that the Living God. We no longer have to fear living without our walls, because we walk in the shadow of our Great Protector, surrounded by His strength.
“As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds His people. From this time forth, forevermore.” Ps. 125:2
He invites us to be found in Him, and He in us. To be found covered, protected, strengthened and secure in the safety of His shadow. In the place of His presence.
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, ‘My refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust!’. For it is He who delivers you…” (Psalm 91:2-3 NKJV)
